Reading Interests Survey
In order to find out what my learner knows and likes about reading and why people read, I asked him to answers a short survey. Below is the survey and his responses.

Answers provided by the learner.

Given what the learner has told me, I can see that he has the typical reading interests that we would expect from a young boy. He is interested in cartoons and comics, and books; from other parts of our interview I learned that these were mainly part of the Batman collection.

It is apparent that the learner has a home and school life that is supportive of his reading, with his parents actively encouraging him to read by asking him to read to them, and the school inviting children's parents to the school to be read to. Furthermore, by replying to the question "Why do people read?" with "to learn words", it is clear the learner knows that it is important for people to have knowledge of different words, but shows no knowledge of concepts like grammar or punctuation.
